Sutra is the essence of a teaching.  It is the most distilled-down, essential thread of knowledge that has been stripped of excess.   The messages on these shirts are intended to inspire and be embodied.

My inspiration to create shirts with slogans is a result of my exposure to the teachings of the eleventh century Buddhist teacher, Atisha.   He emphasized the use of slogans as a way to expand the mind and get us out of our ruts.

Slogans

I started writing down modern day slogans that resonated with me.  I've found two slogans especially meaningful:  “Lean into Fear” and “Let Go Let Be.”  I began writing these slogans on my own shirts as a constant reminder.  Then I began creating shirts for others too since they enjoyed the slogans.  I've included my interpretations of the slogans; however please make them your own.  I hope you enjoy the shirts.

“Lean into Fear”

Fear can be one of our greatest teachers.  Instead of reacting to fear, try investigating it further.  Lean into your fears ~ touch them, poke them around the edges ~ and see what opens up for you.

“Let Go Let Be”

Space for creativity and possibilities arises only when we let go and let be.

This saying is inspired by Lama Surya Das, a Western Buddhist scholar, author of Awakening the Buddha Within (among other titles), and founder of the non-profit organization, the Dzogchen Center.  A joyful sun graphic illustrates this slogan since “Surya” means sun.    This shirt is a tribute to his joy and wisdom.  Fifty percent of all proceeds from the sales of these shirts will be donated to the Dzogchen Center.
